When It’s More Difficult, I Just Cram More! An Exploratory Interview Study on Students’ Mindsets in Physics

چکیده

In the US, Dweck’s research has shown that learners’ beliefs about their own capability are crucial for learning success of children and adolescents. Two ends this spectrum can be identified: learners who believe they need an innate talent have a so-called fixed mindset. When difficulties arise, students with mindset typically do not see any purpose in continuing to try fail because lack necessary talent. On other hand, effort hard work key factors success, growth They perceive as opportunities improve skills therefore, supports processes outcomes. While there several surveys on general concept mindsets, examination within context physics yet taken place. For purpose, exploratory interview study students’ mindsets was conducted total sample N = 51 middle school Germany Austria using standardised structure.
